Getting to the new site
One aspect that has concerned a number of people I have spoken to is the access to the new site. Not the immediate turning in but the approach from Gallows Hill.
I understand this is NOT part of the planning application review but I feel strongly that it should.
If you drive around the double bend outside the White Hart at any time of day (coming towards town) the cars parked on the left hand side force you out into the centre of the road around a difficult bend.
In a large delivery truck a driver is certain to be on the wrong side of the road. That is an accident waiting to happen withg the increased car traffic and the delivery trucks. There is no other safer route for the trucks to approach along.
Going further back further, the cars parked along Gallows Hill towards the allotments also present a hurdle that can be a congestion point. Add more trucks and cars and ... The authorities are trying to portray the Tesco location as intended for local residents and will therefore not bring in much more traffic (they even suggested people would cycle there).
Finally, any delivery truck coming from Colchetser or Chelmsford (from the A12) is expected to go up to Copdock and then come in along the by-pass. How many people have had their SatNav direct them along that route? None, I bet.
The Council may say that this is a consideration they cannot take into account and should not be part of the Tesco review. However the Planning Committee used just such an argument two years ago to refusea planning application. They considered there to be a slight risk that SatNav would guide a delivery truck along this unsuitable route. I think the precedent has been set.

Getting to the new site
I agree Tony Addison's comments. Whether or not a Tesco would bring any enduring benefit to Hadleigh it is an extremely unsuitable location

Tesco Development
As a resident on Gallows Hill I fully endorse the views expressed by your two previous correspondents.
Also, after the floods experienced last winter on the allotments, would the proposed Tesco carpark not run similar risk of flooding?

New Supermarket
I am broadly in favour of a new supermarket for Hadleigh, although not necessarily run by Tesco. I appreciate the many arguments both for and against the use of the present site, but what I feel is lacking from the anti-riverside site protestors are clear proposals that will remove the rat-infested tangle of weeds and dilapidated buildings from the area, and importantly generate an equivalent income for the residents of the town. Of course, the site may have existing use rights as a general industrial estate and perhaps someone would be interested in developing a truly local and useful business such as a slaughterhouse and food processing plant for the improved welfare of animals and a true boon to local food stock producers.

Tesco
A new supermarket would have a serious impact on the local economy as over 90% of the money spent in the store will be taken out of the area and go straight to Tescos headquarters. The money which remains locally will be mainly for wages. While some jobs, mainly part time, will be created, Lady Cranbrook has shown that more jobs would be lost than gained.
There is no proof that an edge of town supermarket will bring more trade into the High Street, in fact, the evidence is to the contrary.

Proposed Tesco site
The riverside site should not be used for a supermarket, but developed as a recreational and community area, perhaps with some housing as at the Toppesfield Bridge end.
Creating more traffic on the approach roads to the High Street is foolish and unnecessary.

TESCO IS NEEDED BADLY.
Firstly, Tesco is a store urgently required in Hadleigh, For starters the CO-OP is over priced,Under stocked and not the easiest store to navigate, Surely the aisles could have been wider and less " Maze Like ". All supermarkets need competition and a rival in a town or city otherwise you get the singular store charging what they like because shoppers have no other choice but to buy from there. Tesco are known for their customer care and service and excellent shopping experiences.
When Tesco arrives i,m sure you will see the CO-OP lower it,s prices and become more shopper friendly, Tesco has more range and better prices and the store is a huge asset to the town. I read about " Tesco will kill the High St shops " but let,s be honest about this, What shops are there really for the everyday shopper? Tesco won,t kill the High St but bring more business into it. Besides that, As a registered disabled person who does,nt have a car, I cannot get to Copdock or Sudbury to shop so i rely on my partner to shop in Hadleigh plus think of all the other disabled/OAP people in Hadleigh who would benefit from the new store.
Shoppers who miss an item from their list will have a Tesco which will be a " God send " as opposed to the over priced CO-OP. Why should we have to make do with one supermarket with minimal variety etc. Tesco will bring a breath of fresh air to Hadleigh atlast aswell as jobs which is badly needed around here !!
As for the location then i still don,t see what the fuss is, Hearing some people,s arguments you would think Tesco are building a hyper market and completely wiping out the landscape, It,s a dis-used dump site/eye sore at the moment so any improvement is going to be a plus. The disruption to wildlife is minimal and as we all know, Wildlife in this day and age is becoming ever more urban and easily adaptable so i don,t see that as a problem.
The traffic i keep reading/hearing about seems to be exaggerated too, Nobody is going to come from Ipswich/Sudbury areas to shop at Hadleigh Tesco which a few people have continually stated, Why would they come here when they have their own store? The majority of people using this store will be from Hadleigh so traffic is not going to be hundreds and hundreds and bocking the High St/Gallows Hill. The delivery lorries will be ok and it won,t be some huge industrial estate so let,s not over react,This has all been planned for. Anyway it,s already bad enough for traffic when those enormous Dutch flower lorries which deliver in the High St arrive and create complete chaos. Atleast the Tesco lorries won,t actually come into the High St and cause jams etc, They can come in and out without going down the HS. Traffic in the High St needs to be one way anyway with a loop around Magdalen Rd and the High St.
I for one hope Tesco will be granted permission and bring a much needed asset to the town which can only make it better. It,s the 21st century and times change and needs change also. The positives outweigh the negatives easily and so that,s my opinion for what it,s worth.

Tesco
I agree with the comments that the access is the weakest part of the plan and I also have reservations about increased traffic along Bridge St and Gallows Hill. The other fear I have with Tescos is that they usually extend or add facilities to existing stores. There is a risk that we will get more than we bargained for.
Either way, I also agree that something needs to be done with the proposed site to improve it and add something to the town. This is obviously going to cost money to do and would need money to maintain. However, the proposals are always going to have to contend with the access difficulties.
Would the folks that are very much in favour of the store object if the proposal was to build it on the outskirts of town, eg near the new fire station?

Tesco
Being a local supporter of the high street in Hadleigh Tesco would be better being on the bypass area for passing trade anyway, and leaving the town free of traffic.
My idea of Tesco's should be on outskirts of towns or inbetween to cut down the amount of shops they need anyway.
