An accountant of my acquaintance has had the most depressing three months business that he can ever recall, though he has never been so busy.
We're all trying to recycle and save energy yet we buy food flown in from around the world instead of eating locally produced items.
A recent TV programme challenged a supermarket to show any product made within a 30-mile radius. You won't be surprised to find they didn't know where to start looking.
But do our local shops do any better? Over the next few weeks we'd like to get a list of the local shops and what they sell that is produced locally - a contribution to save energy (on shipping) and support local business.
It would be nice to show local produce in a number of different categories of, say, 5-mile radius, 30-mile radius but also show the 30 mile radius where the food has been round the country into a distribution chain before coming back home. Complete the form if you have any nominations. Who knows we may get enough nominations to present a prize for the shop doing the most to support local producers.
Thanks for helping out.
