Promoting the High Street

A key issue amongst all the retailers in Hadleigh is "how do we get the foot-fall into the High Street up?"

Do Babergh have any plans of their own or are they working with any other groups to this end?

Response from Babergh

Thanks for this posting.

Obviously, increasing footfall is a shared responsibility between the High Street retailers themselves (and their own marketing efforts) and other interested partners, which would indeed include Babergh.

Babergh’s tourism unit produces a range of publications that promote the town (eg Where to Stay in the South and Heart of Suffolk and What to See and Do in The South and Heart of Suffolk, the town map in the Magdalen Road car park – in association with the Hadleigh Rotary Club and the Town Council) and specific activities (eg the 10,000 print run of A Walk Around Hadleigh)

There may be scope for Babergh’s economic development team to work more closely (budgets allowing) with the Chamber of Commerce in additional promotional work and retailer training. We could also give guidance in developing a programme of local events to raise the profile as to what the High Street has to offer potential customers. There is also the possibility of the Chamber of Commerce driving forward a town healthcheck which could lead to a formal independent market town partnership – as in Sudbury. Babergh could again potentially help on this – but the Chamber of Commerce needs to be aware of the considerable financial, time and political commitments involved.
