Eight Bells Hadleigh, Thursday 2 February 2012
Firstly, may I wish our members a happy and successful New Year and, secondly, extend my apologies for the unfortunate cancellation of the January breakfast meeting.
The latest President of Hadleigh Chamber of Commerce is a newcomer to Hadleigh now working with a global finance company.
Chris Edgar was born and brought up in Zimbabwe, leaving the country to study metallurgy at the University of Surrey. After a two-year spell in Portsmouth he returned to his homeland to help on the family farm growing coffee, tobacco and, at one time, ostriches.
But time at home was cut short as life in Zimbabwe became difficult and Chris moved to London where he continued the farming theme as a gardener in London before moving into the world of financial services with Edward Jones.
Shortly after his move to Hadleigh Chris married fellow Zimbabwean Janine and earlier this year his son Jonty was born. At the same time he was setting up his business, moving into High Street premises which late last year were formally opened by local MP Tim Yeo, who welcomed the increase in local financial services bringing personal advice to the community.
Edward Jones is a financial services company offering independent fianncial advice and stockbroking services.
It is a large company with more than 30,000 employees worldwide offering consistent personal services with one broker to an office in local communities. Currently there are 11,000 offices around the world.
