Hanging Gardens of Hadleigh - 2010

Hadleigh town centre will have hanging gardens again this year. In fact, there’ll be even more hanging baskets than last year with the displays stretching the full length of the high street.

We will be adding baskets to some of the lampposts at the northern end of the street and filling in some of the gaps along the way.

This is a whole town effort organised by a very small group of volunteers, including notably Guy Ormes and Ron Jenkins, under the auspices of Hadleigh Chamber of Commerce. The town’s traders are again supporting the initiative to brighten our shopping centre and we know that town groups are doing their best to support the scheme. Last year individual residents chipped in to sponsor a basket, some in memory of lost relatives.

It is a good example of a community joining forces to improve the environment we live and work in. For this we need sponsors. It is an expensive enterprise buying the hardware and fixings, paying for the planting and maintenance throughout the summer. We know that traders are happy to sponsor again this year but it’s also great if groups of residents join forces to sponsor a basket; how about the Church Street basket, or the Benton Street hanging garden. Clubs, schools or groups of employees could team up to raise funds.

Since we didn’t pay the failed maintenance team of last year we have some money to rollover. Together with a substantial donation from Priory Hall Ltd this has enabled us to extend the scheme this year. But we still need to pay for this year’s display.

If you would like to sponsor a basket please complete the form below and send it with your cheque to Cyndy Hilton, Hadleigh Chamber of Commerce, Priory Hall, Benton Street, Hadleigh, IP7 5AZ. The cost for an individual basket is £50 and corporate sponsorship starts at £100.

All sponsors will receive a certificate and be included on our published sponsor lists. For more information please contact Cyndy Hilton on 01473 823185.
