One of the UK's oldest pubs serving exceptional food from local produce

Profile:
The Lindsey Rose is a 15th century Suffolk hall house and one of the country's oldest pubs. It has been the village of Lindsey's local for over 500 years.

Local businessman and farmer, James Buckle, whose interests include The Bildeston Crown and Boyton Hall Equine Centre, long had his eye on buying his local pub, and this he did in April 2007.

The Lindsey Rose is managed on a day to day basis by husband and wife team Pete and Jess Miller. The two previously worked at The Bildeston Crown where Pete was formerly the Assistant Manager. Because of the proximity of the two businesses, there continues to be a close working relationship between the two teams and weekend visitors to The Bildeston Crown often enjoy one of their meals at this traditional Suffolk pub.

Pete is, however, quite adamant that The Lindsey Rose is not being turned into a mini replica of the luxury hotel/restaurant in nearby Bildeston:
“The Rose will most definitely remain a pub with good food rather than be turned into a restaurant with a bar.” Pete is happy to assure the locals. But as you would expect from a team with the pedigree of The Bildeston Crown, the food is an exceptional standard and showcases the very best of local produce. A particular feature is the steaks where customers can choose the cut and size of steak before it is sizzled and served exactly to their taste. Other delights to feature on The Lindsey Rose’s menu include Venison Salami, Colchester Oysters and favourite staples such as Toad in the Hole with onion gravy and Beer Batter Fish.

As well as this wide menu range, the focus of The Lindsey Rose is also real ales and fine wines. It has a superb outside children’s play area with a large field and so is very attractive to families particularly in the summer. Pete and Jess hold regular events such as the monthly Sunday Jazz lunches and seasonal specials such as the recent “Lamb and Eggs” Easter Egg Hunt with the added attraction of some baby lambs from the owner’s nearby farm. The Lindsey Rose is also good news for the high volume of tourists enjoying the local attractions and beautiful walks in this part of the Suffolk countryside.

The Lindsey Rose is the third pub in the group. As well as The Bildeston Crown the owner also owns The Erwarton Queen near Ipswich.
