Local Shopping
We're all trying to recycle and save energy yet we buy food flown in from around the world instead of easting locally produced items.
A recent TV programme challenged a supermarket to show any product made within a 30 mile radius. You won't be surprised to find they didn't know where to start looking.
But do our local shops do any better. Over the next few weeks we'd like to get list of the local shops and what they sell that is produced locally - a contribution to save energy (on shipping) and support local business.
So, all you members that sell local produce - getting posting here. I'll start by putting some articles together in the Shopping area. If we get enough response, and visitor demand, perhaps we'll be able to list everyone highlighting the local products they sell.
What do you think constitutes local? I suggest we do it in two bites, one of about 5 miles and one of 30-40 miles. If you agree or disagree, have your say now as I'll take silence as acceptance and start listing.

local produce
Hadleigh Farm Shop stocks a large amount of local produce, from locally smoked cheese and fish, to locally grown vegetables and fruit. The shop sells cakes supplied by a local resident and locally produced fruit juices, though I don't know whether these come directly or via a massive distribution chain taking them from Hadleigh, round the country and then back to Hadleigh.
Game birds shot in the Hadleigh area are often available at Pierpoints and locally produced luxury chocolates are supplied directly to some Hadleigh shops from an in-town manufacturer which also supplies Harrods and P&O.
It would be interesting to know whether any of our local pork producers supply Hadleigh direct. We do have a weekly van turn up with fish from Lowestoft.
