6pm Wednesday 12 June
Dining Room
Guildhall, Hadleigh
(Paid-up Chamber members only)
It is that time again in the current round of the planning application for Brett Works for wider discussion and the Tesco representatives have asked us to arrange an evening meeting where members can talk to them, discuss the perceived benefits and local concerns. This meeting will be primarily to explore concerns and needs in the light of planning approval being given.
There has been a lot going on in Hadleigh in the last few months. Make sure we have your email address and that you are receiving the email news.
If not contact any of the current committee
During the year the Chamber have kicked off a few projects and have some further ideas sitting in the wings waiting some resource. We always welcome help in these endeavours, not necessarily to join the committee but just to spare a little time on an individual project and help with your particular skills.

People in Hadleigh are grappling with a tricky planning problem; how to get council planners and councillors to adapt to new situations rather than follow an historic and outdated path. It’s simple. It’s all about supermarkets. Some years ago an inspector at a public inquiry found that Hadleigh was in need of a second supermarket. This was used to support an application from Tesco to build behind Hadleigh High Street. This was an issue which split the town with much publicity from the pro Tesco and the anti Tesco brigades. |
Babergh Planning consideration 4 July The date has now been set for the Babergh Council Planning Committee to review the latest development application for Brett Works on behalf of Tesco. Given the arrival of Morrisons in January and the subsequent, significant effect on the High Street the vast majority of Chamber members have directed the Chamber committee to research and object to the development. Most significant is the Economic potential of a third supermarket on the town. |
